WP3 - End user applications

Work package 3 focuses on cost-efficient hydrogen driven maritime operations, the use of hydrogen in CCU at industrial sites, and maritime application of hydrogen and hydrogen-carriers.

Hydrogen uptake depends on robust end‑use solutions in industry and maritime sectors. WP3 develops methods, tools and validation activities that improve efficiency, reliability and lifetime of hydrogen systems in real‑world operations.

Key tasks in WP3

  • Task 3.1 Cost‑efficient hydrogen‑driven maritime operations
Task lead: Svein O. Halstensen, NORCE
  • Task 3.2 Industrial value chains
    Task lead: Ulrik Thisted, NORCE
  • Task 3.3 Maritime application of hydrogen and hydrogen carriers
    Task lead: Jonathan Torstensen, HVL
  • Task 3.4 Efficient transport and distribution (former WP2 Task 2.1)
    Task lead: Antonie Oosterkamp, NORCE
  • Task 3.5 Robust metering for supply chains (former WP2 Task 2.2)
    Task lead: Kjetil Folgerø, NORCE

Objectives

Solve technical challenges for transition to zero-emission economy, including maritime transport and operations and industrial production.

  • Develop methods for reducing overall costs of hydrogen driven maritime operations.
  • Develop methods for exploiting the synergies of industrial sites combining hydrogen and raw material production with CCU.
  • Improve fuel cell/engine efficiency for hydrogen and ammonia powered propulsion.
